When not meet the "spiritual hunger", the endless repetition from work to go home to eat, to sleep, to continue working for to pay the rent or mortgage, and so on, like a macabre dance marathon which is only possible escape from death. We could call this problem "spiritual hunger."
People desire to live in a more spiritual, helpful and cheerful. During the last twenty years, we have verified by observing friends, family and clients who come to our office and university students.
children and members of Generation X are afraid of the future. The baby boom generation is reaching middle age and questions the meaning of their environment. ( "spiritual diet to nourish the Soul" was released in 1997. ) The elderly feel the nearness of death. The burdens of daily life, at work and at home, and the limitations of materialism, make people of all ages yearn to live in an uplifting and inspiring about a "spiritual force superior ", call it God, Jesus Christ, Buddha, Allah, Yahweh, Brahma or the Great Mystery.
is not easy to lead a successful and rich spiritual life in the maelstrom of daily activities and thoughts, feelings and sensations that seem to focus more well in our dreams and desires rather than what is beyond words.
suggest a "spiritual diet", but not to deprive us of certain things, but on the contrary, a diet that you provide a healthy combination spiritual ideas to feed our psychological and feed the soul.
We have undertaken two spiritual journeys throughout life. Jonathan was raised in a family unorthodox Jewish, celebrating the holidays with a menorah and a Christmas tree. Diane's family was liberal Christian but Jewish holiday celebrating with friends and neighbors. As adults we have explored and studied in depth the treasure of the Eastern and Western philosophy, psychology, religion, prayer and meditation. In the sixties, Jonathan studied for six years philosophy and religion at the University of New York and the New School for Social Research. In 1975 he wrote his doctoral thesis on Western psychotherapy as viewed from the perspective of Eastern religions, thereafter, applied these ideas and techniques in the treatment of their patients. Diane stated, for many years, evolutionary philosophy of spiritual diet in the classroom and through his writings.
In 1986, armed with the experience we acquired, we began to collect ideas for a book that would be useful to groups of people with diverse spiritual horizons. We wanted to provide a "spiritual diet" to help people to reduce the weight of their daily burdens and get rid of the weight of the world.
When parents work and family, we strive to integrate the power of spirit to our hectic lives. We have worked to develop the spiritual diet for several years. Diet that was developed while we grew and we were helping others. Both students and patients often entrust their hopes, dreams, fears and concerns, and ask for advice on finding solutions to their specific problems and discover their spirituality.
A frequent case may be that of a college student who is unable to finish a job. Commenting on the case, it is obvious that the underlying problem is an exaggerated self-criticism, poor self-esteem and other difficulties associated with spirituality, which have been buried under his particular "weight of the world." Specific advice on their work would be of little use, but if it were applied to the intrinsic charges of self-esteem and self-criticism ( for example, putting her in touch with their inherent goodness ), would help him in all tasks undertaken in life and boost the connection to his own goodness and joy.
And that's what happens. Customers who submit to our therapies, academics and others who have used the spiritual diet to get rid of the weight of the world, have been lightened their loads everyday and have found that life became more happy, joyous and rewarding. Current
Dalai Lama and other religious leaders have suggested the need for a "spirituality universal and secular. "spiritual diet hope will add to this idea, since it covers the major religious traditions while offering techniques and concepts to feed equally to those who have a specific belief and those who yearn to achieve greater spiritual awareness to guide your life.
is not necessary to practice a particular religion to apply spiritual diet. This provides techniques compatible with most religious systems and their effectiveness does not depend on the faith of the person who applies. No necessary to believe in them, you just have to implement them. The techniques work if we operate.
Lao Tzu , wrote:
"As the rivers originate from a remote source, the human spirit rises from a fountain. Find the source of the spirit is to find the secret of Paradise."
This source, which is the core of all spirituality, is marked by all religions, albeit with different words, shapes and images.
We have used for several years, the basic principles of spiritual diet we propose in this book with people of different religions ( Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Hindus, Unitarians and spiritual unaffiliated ). We mixed up the directions and ingredients that have proven effective and able to coexist with the pace of Western civilization on the eve of the new millennium.
spiritual diet fuses the essence of many religious teachings in order to feed the soul and helping people to get in touch with your spirituality.
By harmonizing our personality with our spirit, focus our awareness, encourage us to discover our basic goodness, and teach us to live freely and fully, the spiritual diet will reduce the burden of our personal problems and help us get rid of the weight of the world.
